2010 Annual Meeting
Members and friends of the Aspetuck Land Trust enjoyed an entertaining evening on June 24th with New York Times best-selling author and preservationist, Clive Cussler.
Mr. Cussler was the main speaker at the Land Trust’s Annual Meeting held at the historic Pequot Library in Southport, Conn. The standing-room only crowd was treated to stories and adventures from Mr Cussler’s life as well as anecdotes about the research done for many of his novels. After which Mr. Cussler graciously answered many questions from the audience and signed books.
Just as Aspetuck Land Trust strives to preserve land before it is lost forever, Mr. Cussler is passionate about finding and preserving lost historic ship wrecks and artifacts before they too are lost forever. Mr. Cussler, who is married to Fairfield native, Janet Horvath, commended the Land Trust in its role in preserving open space, “You’re doing a tremendous job saving land”.
Princie Falkenhagen, President of the Land Trust, lead a brief meeting to elect new board members and highlighted key accomplishments in 2009 including the creation of the Newman/Poses Nature Preserve and the construction of the area’s first hands-on natural playground at the Leonard Schine Preserve in Westport.
The Land Trust wants to thank Newman’s Own for their generous donation of wine, lemonade and iced-tea. In addition, Dan Snydacker, Robyn Swan Filippone and the rest of the Pequot Library staff were instrumental in making this meeting a great success – thank you!
