Canceled: Roots in Nature Forest Bathing Walk

  • Stonebridge Waterfowl Preserve Newtown Turnpike & Stonebridge Road Weston, CT (map)

Slow down.

Awaken your senses.

Relax into the beauty around us.

Join the Association of Nature & Forest Therapy (ANFT) Certified Guide Sue Smith for a forest bath in Aspetuck Land Trust's lovely Stonebridge Waterfowl Preserve.

Inspired by the Japanese practice of shinrin-yoku, forest bathing, or forest therapy, has been scientifically proven to boost immune strength, reduce stress, and improve cognitive function.  Beyond these physiological changes, forest bathing offers us the opportunity to deepen our relationship with the natural world.

A forest bathing walk is not a hike or a workout; we move slowly and, for the most part, in silence.  A series of guided invitations are offered along the way to assist you in finding your own authentic way of interacting with the land.  The walk follows the standard sequence of ANFT and the experience ends with a tea ceremony, where you'll enjoy tea made from local plants, along with some healthy snacks.

Be sure to dress appropriately for the weather/temperature.  Wear comfortable walking shoes and socks, long pants and sleeves, and a hat with a visor.  Bring enough bottled water to stay hydrated for the duration.  You also may want to bring sunblock and a small towel for sitting during portions of the walk.

The terrain at Stonebridge is flat, and the total distance covered is less than a mile.  Parking is available in the lot at the entrance to the preserve.  The walk begins promptly at 10:00 am.

Maximum Participation is 12, registration is required.
