ALT is always seeking additional training opportunities for volunteers to increase their capabilities and enhance safety when working on the trails. To that end, we are are again offering a 2-day chainsaw training workshop called Game of Logging (Levels 1 & 2) for interested individuals.

Game of Logging is a world-recognized training curriculum that teaches chain saw skills. Developed in the 1960s by Soren Eriksson, a Swedish logger turned training instructor, the Game of Logging combines Scandinavian logging techniques with the latest systems for working safely around trees.
The “game” refers not only to the friendly competitive aspect of the training but also to the necessity of having a winning plan or strategy for working safely in the woods. The program breaks apart saw work into steps that are practiced throughout the course. A fun scoring system helps focus participants’ attention on the most important details and allows them to measure their progress each day.
Don’t worry if your experience with a chainsaw is limited, the instructor will work with you taking your skill level into account. Demonstration and hands-on practice of the various techniques will be tailored to the needs and abilities of land trust trail stewards.
Here is a short list of the topics covered:
Discussion of and plan for Emergencies, and Personal Protective Equipment
Daily 5-Point Safety Check
Discussions of Routine Maintenance
Art of Filing the chain
Discussion of Reactive Forces: Push; Pull; Kickback; Attack
Bore Cutting: use attack corner, body position
