We are hosting a bird walk at Ash Creek with Adé Ben-Salahuddin. Don’t forget to bring your binoculars as we lead discussion while you view the abundant birds (osprey, shorebirds and ducks) of the area. Learn about the different species as well as the conservation of this natural salt marsh - an important stopover area along the Atlantic Flyway for migrating shorebirds.
Meet at 9:15am; bird walk begins promptly at 9:30am.
The walk's meet-up location is on Gilman Street in Bridgeport by the sandbar.
Space is limited. Maximum 35 people.
Adé is a naturalist and freelance science writer, and is currently pursuing both Bachelor's ('25) and Master's ('26) degrees in Biology at Southern CT State University. His academic interests include evolution, paleontology, and science communication and outreach, with a growing range of experiences rooted in a lifelong love of nature and our shared history as life on Earth. He has worked at the Yale Peabody Museum as both a collections assistant and tour guide, observed the feeding habits of common terns in Maine with the National Audubon Society's Project Puffin, excavated 213 million year-old fossils in Arizona’s Painted Desert, produced and narrated podcasts for BirdNote, and has his own YouTube channel, Adasaur, highlighting the diversity of the ancient past and the people who research it. He has also helped to plan and organize The Black AF in STEM Collective's annual Black Birders Week event since 2022, and credits the group and its movement for his newfound passion for birding, particularly in urban environments like his New Haven hometown. He's always excited to help people discover the birds on their block!
