Join us this Latino Conservation Week as we engage in a day of events celebrating the influence of Indigenous and Brown cultures on ecosystems, both locally and globally. Here's the schedule for the day:
9:30-11:30 AM: Start your morning with a bird walk at Ash Creek, led by the knowledgeable Ade. Explore local wildlife while learning about the birds that inhabit this vibrant ecosystem.
1:00-3:00 PM: Dive into Wildlife BPT (1001 Main St UNIT 14, Bridgeport, CT 06608) with Myra and Sergio for dynamic conversations about the profound impact Indigenous and Brown cultures have on local, national, and global ecosystems. Hands-on experiences will include a seeding program, flooding station demonstration, and a cooking demo showcasing sustainable practices.
4:00-6:00 PM: Wrap up the day at Skateport (1145 Main St Bridgeport, Connecticut), where we'll sponsor some skates and conduct a unique program measuring real-time environmental factors like temperature, body heat, and air quality—blending recreation with science and sustainability.
Throughout the day, we’ll also celebrate the rich history of Hispanic contributions to agriculture, offering insights into their lasting influence on today’s food systems. This event is a perfect opportunity to engage with nature, learn about food sovereignty, and explore how we can all contribute to resilient, sustainable communities.
Bring your curiosity, and join us for a day full of exploration and conversation!
