Pond View Preserve

About Pond View (Paine Open Space) Preserve
Pond View is part of the 128-acre Paine Open Space owned by the town of Easton. Paine Open Space has an extensive trail system that is excellent for year-round hiking and snowshoeing or cross-country skiing in winter.

For a nice hike, follow the trails for a short walk around the pond and through a pine grove and open meadow.

Historic Hay Barn
A classic English Hay Barn on the Paine property was built in 1847.  Today, only the stone foundation remains.  Easton wanted to repair the barn and had raised funds to do so, but when the building inspector wouldn’t let preservationists onto the roof for safety reasons the restoration was never completed.  The barn was offered for sale to the public, and John Baldwin of Canterbury, Connecticut was awarded the barn by Easton’s Board of Selectmen.  Mr. Baldwin owns a home that was built in 1712 and he intended to rebuild the Paine Barn on the site of an old barn foundation that is on his property.

Reminder, dogs are allowed on leash only on this preserve as well as the adjacent Island Pond and Paine preserves. Please observe this rule and, as always, pick up after your pet and remove waste from the premises.
